As Wesley Chapel, Florida, continues to grow, the need for community recreation spaces has become increasingly important. The Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA helps meet that need, bringing fitness, wellness, and aquatic recreation closer to home for local families who previously traveled to Tampa for similar amenities.
This two-story, more than 40,000-square-foot facility features a 35,000-square-foot aquatic center with lap pool, teaching pools, and a water activity pool with a beach-entry water play area. AquaWorx, Water Odyssey, Rockstar Pools, and WET Engineering are proud to contribute to this community destination with aquatic features that bring excitement to every visit.
The beach-entry water play area features an exciting collection of AquaWorx interactive water features and spray park products, including Aqua Buckets 3, Aqua Cannon, Aqua Fall, and Aqua Palm. Adding to the experience are two signatureWater Odyssey Fun Forms: the Big Sqwerts Dolphin and Devan Dolphin Aqua Slide. The Big Sqwerts Dolphin is an interactive, dolphin-themed water cannon that puts children in control of the fun while incorporating a limited spray radius to keep water within the designated aquatic play area. As the cannon rotates beyond a predetermined angle, the spray automatically shuts off, helping maintain the intended water play boundaries. Located on the pool deck, the Devan Dolphin Slide provides a smaller, age-appropriate sliding experience for toddlers and younger swimmers, with Life Floor aquatic safety surfacing installed beneath the themed toddler slide.
For guests who prefer a gentler introduction to aquatic play, underwater ground sprays positioned along the perimeter of the beach-entry area create a more approachable sensory experience. These subtle water effects offer opportunities for exploration without the intensity of larger overhead sprays or dumping features, allowing children with different sensory preferences to participate at their own comfort level. Together, the variety of water effects creates an engaging environment that supports different ages, abilities, and styles of play.
At the opposite end of the water activity pool, an AquaWorx open-flume waterslide tower brings an entirely different level of excitement to the aquatic center. Standing 19 feet tall, the waterslide structure features a custom white spiral staircase tower that leads riders to the top of a vibrant teal waterslide. The waterslide was thoughtfully incorporated into the activity pool layout with a dedicated discharge area separated by a rope barrier. This designated space helps keep the slide's landing zone clear of other swimmers, supporting safer operation while allowing nearby guests to enjoy the surrounding aquatic amenities.
By positioning the waterslide away from the beach-entry play area, the facility offers distinct aquatic experiences within a shared environment. Younger visitors can enjoy interactive sprays and smaller slides, while older children and thrill seekers can experience the excitement of the larger waterslide.
Supporting the facility's extensive aquatic amenities are AquaWorx sand filtration systems designed to maintain water quality throughout the lap pool, teaching pools, and water activity pool. These systems play an essential role in aquatic facility operations by removing suspended particles and debris from circulating pool water, helping maintain clear, inviting swimming environments.
Sand filtration offers a proven and dependable approach to commercial pool water management. As water passes through the filtration media, suspended contaminants are captured before the filtered water returns to the pool. Sand filters are valued for their durability, straightforward operation, and established maintenance procedures, making them a practical solution for busy aquatic facilities that experience consistent daily use.
The filtration equipment packs are housed within a dedicated outdoor space, with double-door access providing convenient entry for routine inspections, servicing, and equipment maintenance. This accessible configuration helps facility operators efficiently manage the systems that support the aquatic center's daily operations.
The Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA demonstrates how thoughtfully designed aquatic spaces can bring families together while meeting the recreational needs of a growing community. By combining diverse aquatic play, thrilling waterslide experiences, and reliable water management technology, the facility offers a diverse range of opportunities for fitness, recreation, and family fun.
AquaWorx is proud to have collaborated with Water Odyssey, Rockstar Pools, and WET Engineering to help bring this community destination to life, creating a welcoming environment where Wesley Chapel residents can connect, play, and enjoy the benefits of aquatic recreation for years to come.
